METHODIST COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, ASENE-ABOABO, ODA
SCIENCES DEPARTMENT
DEPARTMENTAL DESCRIPTION
Science Department is a complete student-oriented department where research and teacher education are closely inter-twined. The department aims at equipping its student-teachers with the necessary academic proficiency and professional competence in teaching to promote a link between schools and communities in order to improve the educational standard of learners in science education. To attain these, the department guides student-teachers to appreciate all scientific, culture and religious beliefs but approve their genuineness through globally accepted scientific procedures to demystify all scientific misconceptions. Again, they are trained to efficiently facilitate teaching and learning of science at the basic school level so that learners at this level will acquire these characteristics in science education. Research conducted by the Department is also based on curiosity, societal and academic challenges in science education to push the limits of knowledge and skills as well as finding solutions to significant scientific questions in our part of the world.
The Department has ten (10) members of staff consisting of six (6) males and four (4) females. Every member of the staff has the minimum qualification (M.Phil) for teaching at college of education as required by Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
