Our History

The quest for a College of Education in the Akyem Oda Diocese of the Methodist Church emanated from the 1950s when devout Church members at Akyem Swedru advocated for the establishment of a seminary. The idea caught the eye of some members such as Mr Isaac Odei and Mr J. O. Appiah. They provided structures for the establishment of the seminary which became the Freeman College where Catechists of the Methodist Church were trained.

In the late 1960s, the Catechist Centre was transferred to Kumasi after the transfer Ministerial Training to Trinity in Lagon, Accra.

The Premises of the Freeman Catechist Training Centre was used to establish the Akyem Swedru Training College.

In the 1970s following the Government's policy to close down some of the Training Colleges in Ghana, Akyem Swedru Training College was affected. The Ten students were transferred to Komenda Training College to continue.

The Akyem Swedru Circuit which has now grown to become the Akyem Oda Diocese has since earmarked and prayed for the establishment of a Training College with the Wesleyan spirit. Hence at the 23rd Diocesan Annual Synod held at Akyem Asene in the year 2009 under the able leadership of the Rt. Rev. Col. (Rtd) Adjei Brewu, a proposal for the establishment of a College of Education within Oda Diocese was made.

This caught the hearts of the Chiefs and people of Asene and Aboabo. In their response, promised to provide land for the College to be established at Asene and Aboabo.

After the 2010 Annual Synod at Akim Swedru, a committee of implementation was established between the Diocese, Asene, Aboabo and the Methodist University College: Ghana.

Upon series of committee meetings from 2010 to 2011, the long-awaited College came into being in the year September 2012 in the building provided by the St. Luke Methodist Cathedral at Oda.
